Loire Valley World Heritage: holding of the territorial conference on the UNESCO site (Tours, France - 29 November 2011)
The Loire Valley World Heritage territorial conference was held in Tours on 29 November 2011, bringing together the main local authorities in the UNESCO-listed area (from Sully-sur-Loire to Chalonnes-sur-Loire) alongside the State and the Centre and Pays de la Loire Regions, its objective being to pool ideas on the UNESCO label and conditions for the site’s preservation and enhancement. The agenda was devoted to the site’s management plan, which the local authorities present were invited to deliberate upon.

Panasonic sponsors The World Heritage Special on National Geographic Channel in 183 countries
The two-year partnership signed between Panasonic and the World Heritage Centre in June 2011 aims to promote sustainable development and increase environmental awareness. In addition to the World Heritage Eco Learning Programme dedicated to teaching the next generation about the importance of heritage preservation using 3D-related audiovisual equipment and technical support, site visits and contests, activities include Panasonic’s sole sponsorship of The World Heritage Special, which is aired on the National Geographic Channel in 183 countries and regions. A series of Panasonic advertisements related to Panasonic Green Plan 2018 featuring World Heritage sites are also aired on Bloomberg television in 98 countries. This includes satellite TV (Globo Sat), terrestrial TV (TV Bandeirantes) in Brazil, Zee TV and General entertainment Channel in India and RCTI/Trans TV/Metro/TV One in Indonesia. Brand ambassadors include English soprano Sarah Brightman, Indian actress Dia Mirza and Brazilian football player Neymar da Silva Santos. These advertisements introduce environmental initiatives and corporate principles on the environment, and are also disseminated around the world through local media and international press such as Bloomberg Businessweek and Newsweek magazines.

Touring Exhibition: "UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Germany"
The German Commission for UNESCO, together with the German Department of Foreign Affaires, compiled a touring exhibition on the occasion of the German Presidency of the European Council in early 2007. The exhibition consists of panorama photographs by Hans-J. Aubert showing 32 German World Heritage sites. Since their first presentation at the Turkish Foreign Ministry in Ankara in January 2007, the pictures have been exhibited with great success in more than 40 cities worldwide.

Par son emplacement sur l'embouchure de plusieurs grands fleuves qui se joignent en s'ouvrant sur la mer de Chine, la cité portuaire de Hội An a connu un brassage d'hommes venus de différents horizons apportant naturellement avec eux leurs différents cultures : tout d'abord les Chams, puis les Việt et les Japonais, et ensuite les Chinois qui l'ont particulièrement prospérée. Ils ont tous construit leur ville et l'ont aménagée à leurs manières, en fonction non seulement de leurs besoins matériels mais également et surtout de leurs croyances d'un espace de vie humaine imprégné de présence spirituelle (forces surnaturelles, âmes des ancêtres, dieux et esprits divers). Sa taille réduite (de quelques kilomètres carrés) fait d'elle un condensé d'histoire et de diversité culturelle. Son visage d'antan est resté pratiquement intact en traversant presque tout le XXe siècle n'ayant pas été choisie ni par l'administration française coloniale ni par l'État vietnamien moderne pour devenir un port commercial ou industriel. Ainsi, Hội An a été promue par l'Unesco " patrimoine mondial ", en 1999 et enchante le visiteur depuis sa redécouverte ; depuis la sortie de l'économie planifiée du Vietnam, elle connaît une affluence touristique internationale. Le tourisme promeut son patrimoine unique mais le met immédiatement en danger par le développement de la ville…

World Heritage Volunteers 2012 - Call for Projects - concrete actions for the 40th Anniversary of the World Heritage Convention
The UNESCO World Heritage Education Programme in collaboration with the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) is pleased to announce the call for projects for the World Heritage Volunteers 2012.
After 4 years of fruitful experiences with 78 successful projects at 43 sites, carried out in 23 countries with nearly a thousand young volunteers involved, the 2012 edition of the WHV is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention with the theme 'Sustainable Development and the role of Communities at World Heritage sites'.

Kernavė Archaeological site in Lithuania granted “enhanced protection” in the event of armed conflict
Kernavė Archaeological Site (Cultural Reserve of Kernavė) World Heritage site has been given "enhanced protection" status by the Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, which held its sixth meeting at UNESCO Headquarters from 14 to 16 December.
The status had also been requested for two World Heritage sites in Azerbaijan: Walled City of Baku with the Shirvanshah's Palace and Maiden Tower, and Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape. The Committee referred these requests back to the States Parties for complementary information.

Exposition itinérante à louer - Chemins de Saint Jacques de Compostelle - DE PIERRE, DE BOIS, DE TERRE ET D'ÂMES…
Depuis 1998, le bien « Chemins de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle en France » est inscrit sur la Liste du patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO qui lui reconnaît une valeur universelle exceptionnelle. 71 sites remarquables épars en France et 7 tronçons de la voie du Puy-en-Velay ont été retenus. Cette sélection unit des chefs-d’oeuvre caractéristiques de l’architecture romane ou gothique à de modestes chapelles rurales ainsi que de simples ponts, supports à la pérégrination des hommes en quête d’espérance.
L’exposition illustre chacun de ces monuments. Une courte notice présente l’édifice et ses remaniements successifs. Les réflexions de Françoise CHOAY, philosophe, historienne et architecte, retracent la fabrication du concept de patrimoine et sa consécration actuelle, dont témoignent les Journées Européennes du patrimoine. Le photographe toulousain Jean-Jacques GELBART illustre ce propos par un regard singulier porté sur les monuments situés au long des anciens itinéraires vers Compostelle.
L'exposition est accompagnée d'une ambiance sonore qui illustre la marche au long des territoires traversés.

Découverte du tombeau d'une chanteuse de la 22e dynastie dans la Vallée des Rois - Egypte
Des archéologues suisses ont découvert un nouveau tombeau dans la Vallée des Rois, a annoncé le ministère égyptien des Antiquités, le 15 janvier 2012. Il appartenait à une chanteuse de la 22e dynastie, fille d’un grand prêtre d’Amon. Son cercueil, intact, n’a pas encore été ouvert. C’est la première fois qu’une tombe non royale est retrouvée sur le site.

Le Val de Loire, destination favorite des tours-opérateurs pour les séjours à Vélo
C’est ce qui ressort de l’étude publiée par la direction générale de la compétitivité, de l'industrie et des services (DGCIS) qui analyse les séjours à vélo proposés en France par les tours-opérateurs (TO) français et étrangers en 2011. Alors que l’aménagement de l’itinéraire La Loire à Vélo sera achevé en 2012, l’attractivité du Val de Loire s’est renforcée en 2011 avec une progression de 29% de TO y proposant des circuits, eux-mêmes en hausse de 28%.
