RÉSUMÉ

Yazd is the most central desert city in Iran. Some historians date the early construction of this city back to the age of Alexander the Great and before the advent of Islam. However, the archeological findings and various evidences show that the history of this city dates back at least to the period before the birth of Christ. This city is also known as the second earthen city in the whole world. Earthen vents, minarets, and domes are the most significant features of the city of Yazd. The special architectural structure and context of Yazd is one of the most prominent architectural examples specific to hot and dry climates of the world. At the center of each district, usually, uses like bath houses, malls, cisterns, mosques, small workshops, and Qanats (canals to access duct water), many of which still do exist, are located. However, the historical context of Yazd, which until the modernization era and the beginnings of 19th century had been constructed organically and based on the needs of its residents, with the entry of automobiles and in some cases without any concern to the basic structure of the city, has changed so as to facilitate their traffic. The Pahlavi era streets which has bisected the residential areas and malls without any consideration for the urbanization and architectural features of the old context, besides disrupting the linear movement of the pedestrian and destroying the connective quality of the malls, has affected the economical and commercial affairs and relations. at the moment for improving the present situation and rehabilitating the historical context of Yazd, a regeneration project in one of the most critical circuits of the context is being conducted. Based on this project, the present study which specifically deals with the rehabilitation experience of the historical-cultural structure of the context of Yazd focusing on "Ghiam" street has been undertaken at both macro and micro levels and based on the comparative studies with other historical cities as well as the existing evidence and documents, purports to regenerate and reinforce the cultural landscape of the context. Practical and executive implications for the reinforcement of the cultural landscape of the city through the regeneration of the area are suggested.
